Make Service Manager Customer-aware – Part 2

A while ago I have written an article about customizing Service Manager to make it customer-aware. This was just a simple example of how to assign incidents to different customers. Because this article was (and still is) very popular, I decided to write another one about customer-awareness. In this post I will show you how you can assign Configuration Items to customers which can be very important when you manage objects for several customers and different environments. I will show an example of assigning Windows Computer objects, but this can of course also be done with any CI Type.

Autoincrement Property IDs

I’m writing this blog post while sitting in my car in the middle of a huge traffic jam at famous St.Gotthard in Switzerland (2 hours waiting time) Smiley The positive thing is that I have plenty of time to write a new blog post.

A question I get a lot is how to configure autoincrementing of Property IDs. Unfortunately this is not very well documented. In this blog post I will show you how to successfully do it by using a simple Management Pack.

CSV-Import of Objects using Type Projections

A while ago I have written a post about CSV Import of objects. Last time I was just mentioning about importing objects of specific classes. But what about importing objects of combination classes (aka type projections)? This would be the case if you for instance want to import a computer object (one class) and in the same step want to configure the primary user (wich is a relationship to another class). If this sounds interesting, read on.

Get the SMTP Address of a User CI

Due to a notification requirement of a customer, I needed to somehow access the SMTP address of a User CI in the CMDB. This is not that easy, because the SMTP address is not directly stored on the user object, but in a related object of another class. In this post I will show how to get the SMTP address out of the CMDB by using Powershell.

Using the Exchange Connector and the default Incident-by-Mail function together to get the best of both worlds

Wow, what a long title for a blog post! Due to a customer request I built the solution mentioned in the title some days ago. It works very good and satisfies the customers needs. What it does? It allows very flexible Work Items handling by mail. But read more …

SCSM 2012 Scenario Preview – Requesting offerings by using the Self Service Portal

Over the next months I will write some articles to explain new features and possibilities of Service Manager 2012. Some information is already public, some is not. I will take care that only allowed public information will be published here.

Today, I want to show how users can request IT offerings by using the self service portal. These Screenshots have been extracted from an MMS 2011 Session that has ben recorded – so this is public stuff. Thanks to Anders for the “extraction” work!

Auto-Assign unassigned Incidents by using the SCSM Extensions V2.0 OIP

What about days when no one feels responsible for assigning Incidents to Support Groups and/or Analysts? In such cases a workflow that reports unassigned Incidents would be helpful. If needed, the workflow could also assign these Incidents automatically to a Support Group or an Analyst. In this post I will show you how this can be done by using the SCSM Extensions V2.0 OIP in combination with the SCSM OIP from Microsoft.

SCSM Extensions V2.0 OIP (Opalis Integration Pack)

Some weeks ago I released the first Version of the SCSM Extensions OIP. This OIP allows Administrators to create workflows in Opalis to automate things. It contains some activities that are not contained in the SCSM OIP from Microsoft. During my work with Service Manager, I learned what customers are expecting from the product and what their needs are. To make life easier, I created a new Version of the OIP that now contains 15 Activities that can be used to build workflows in Opalis. This was some hard work, but I think the result was worth it.
