Normally I do not blog about certifications I earned, but this one is somewhat special. The IT industry is transitioning, going through huge changes and the term “cloud” is in everyone’s head. This change will also impact many IT companies. They need to change their business models to be successful in the future, or – if they don’t – they will fail and disappear from the landscape. My company is also going through this change and we are in the middle of this transition, ready to help our customers to be successful with modern cloud technologies. Sure thing this also means that IT people need to re-think about the focus they have, and so do I. I am a cloud believer and want to prepare myself with the correct knowledge early enough. Therefore I decided to invest in Microsoft Azure technologies for the last months/years. This way I earned the brand new “MCSD: Azure Solutions Architect” certification. For that I needed to pass 3 exams:
- 70-532 (Developing Microsoft Azure Solutions)
- 70-533 (Implenenting Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions)
- 70-534 (Architecting Microsoft Azure Solutions)
I learned that if you want to be successful in the future, you have to transition yourself away from a traditional IT Pro to a more hybrid role – an IT Pro/Dev guy. That said, I am in the process to re-focus, of course not leaving my “old stuff” behind because I still love it. But this is my journey and it will of course also have an impact on my blog – so stay tuned for more Cloud/Azure related stuff in the future. Think Azure!
Hope you still come back to my blog from time to time, it’s definitely worth it!
Cheers
Marcel

Dear Marcel,
Nice blog! I am one of the executive editors at .NET Code Geeks (www.dotnetcodegeeks.com), a sister site to Java Code Geeks (www.javacodegeeks.com). We have the NCG program, a program that aims to build partnerships between .NET Code Geeks and community bloggers (see http://www.dotnetcodegeeks.com/join-us/ncg/), that I think you’d be perfect for.
If you’re interested, send me an email to nikos[dot]souris[at]dotnetcodegeeks[dot]com and we can discuss further.
Best regards,
Nikos Souris
Hello Marcel,
It’s indeed a nice blog.
I already passed the 70-533 exam and I am planning to take 70-534 in the future.
Because I am not a developer, I am wondering what kind of programming skills (Visual studio, Asp.net, C# etc) is needed to pass exam 70-532 to get MCSD certification.
Is it for example sufficient to take exam 98-361 Software Development Fundamentals before considering exam 70-532? or do I need more advanced programming skills ?
Please advise.
Kind regards,
M. Reyani
